These scattered red oaks were amongst our first reforestation attempts in 1981. More recently bur oaks are becoming established, as well as beaked hazelnut and staghorn sumac. This is a very dry site sloping south. In early June look for the exquisite pink ladyslippers at the base of a large red pine. This is one plant that should only be enjoyed in the wild. It is near impossible to propagate and will almost never adapt to a new home.
