Low Sweet Blueberry
Sweet Fern

Blueberry Meadow

The opening created by the tornado of 2006 allowed for the planting of a lowbush blueberry ground cover section to the east of the low cliff. This formerly cedar-dominated alkaline site has been cleared of stumps and amended with bushels of shredded oak leaves, rotted pine saw dust, and an annual heavy mulch of pine needles. Sweet fern, wintergreen, round-leaved pyrola, black snakeroot and smooth rose are some of the other species found here. At the north end of this garden is a willow/cedar bench draped with our native purple clematis.
